Improved makeup application

I am wondering how some of the girls I see achieve such a flawless, smooth look with their makeup. Is there any way to mask or fill in facial pores? I know you an't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, (I am 48), but is there a foundation that meets this purpose?

Hello there.

I use a product produced by "Clinique" called "Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector".  It is a little pricey but the results are wonderful.  You apply a small dap to the finger and spread it over the area you with to treat.  It really works, pores are filled and after a few seconds you can apply your make up over it.  It comes in several colours, and I use "01 Invisible Light".

Hi Jenny:

I use a primer prior to applying makeup; the primer is 98.5% pharmaceutical silicone and fills in pores completely; it also creates a smooth surface for my makeup which also has a silicone base.

The main natural pore remedies astringents are

Witch Hazel
Lemon Juice
Talcum Powder
Rubbing Alcohol
Oatmeal

These are made to shrink and constrict tissue. I mainly use alcohol, witch hazel, and lemon juice. Not made to cover them, but shrinks them some.

Extremely large pores it might not close up.

I get smooth looking makeup, because I keep my skin healthy.  I have relatively smooth female-type skin to begin with (don't know why), but I enhance it by using a daily scrubbing cleanser and applying moisturizer prior to makeup application.  I have been getting laser treatments as well, which avoids the "pitting" commonly seen after years of electro, however, I do have some hairs on my face and usually apply the moisturizer and then immediately shave using a Mach3(the best in my opinion) razor (spelled razour in Canada? ).  The result is I get skin that not only looks smooth, but feels smooth.  then I use most products by maybelline (which is considerably lower priced that clinique) and that seems to work well.  Prior to hair removal, I used a product by physician formula to cover my beard and that worked well too.

Actually Melissa if the electrologist is causing larger pores I would question their technical ability.  I've been getting electro on my face for almost two years and I can say that the pores have disappeared in the areas that have been treated through electro.  Never have they gotten bigger.  Remember that the hair has been killed therefore there is nothing there to keep the pores open.  Of course there are other skin pores that have nothing to do with hair or it's removal and these consist of those that produce sweat, water and oil that nourishes the skin.  These pores are not usually treated as they contain no hair.  Of course we don't want these pores to disappear or close up or we will undoubtedly run into skin problems.

Yes, I'm familiar with the difference between hair follicles and sudoriferous glands. I have seen many examples of skin that had electrolysis performed that ended up with a distinct texture unlike typical female skin.  Perhaps this is not the case for everyone, but it has been for the people I've seen who chose the electrolysis route.

Hmmm..funny...I had electrolysis for four years during my hairy days, my beard is completely gone and I don't have any pitting.  I think it all depends on the competence and experience of the electrogist.  If someone is going to work on my face, I always choose the best...because it is my face we're talking about here.

Then I guess I just saw some bad examples.

So do I.  I am constantly complimented on my skin. It's lily-white, opaque, and very thick due to the Russian genes (primarily Russian/Italian stock). It's also extremely smooth. It's a pity hormones will soon turn it to rawhide. But must take the detriments with the benefits.

Just to let you know why I love this site... I was down in Bellevue (Wa) and found a silicone based moisturizer which does a not bad job on the smaller pores at Sephora. The best part of the find was that the ladies in store were so helpful to me even dressed in drab. Thanks girls for pointing me in the right direction.
