Hello everyone, I am fairly new to this forum. I have a question, kind of. I started Spiro a little over a week ago. Since starting Ive noticed I dont feel, um, self destructive anymore. I know this isnt directly related to to the spiro. Its just since Ive started and have learned to accept that Im not some weird deviant sexual freak, I dont do the binge spending, stress level has gone down, etc. I was curious to see if anyone can relate to this. I would love to here from you. ;D

Hey, Shannon!

Welcome to Susan's!  Your feelings of stress reduction and less suicidal feelings are quite normal.

I think we've had that to one extent or another.  It's probably a little early for the spiro to have a direct impact on your thinking or feelings.  It's probably has more to do with the fact that you are taking a positive step in your life to become your true self.

As you continue through HRT, you will probably find that these feelings of calm and serenity becoming much stronger.  There is some debate on whether or not these are actual changes in the brain or just the activity of making these positive steps.  I, for one, feel that they are actual changes based on my own experiences.

Thanks for the welcome. I would have to agree with you on both points. I fully believe the change in me is due to the relief I feel about being able to finally take these steps. Now the fun part is still comeing up! I still need to tell my folks. I have told my exwife, and a good friend at work. Tomorrow I am going to tell my boss. I work at dominoes pizza right now. I have worked with these people for about a year. They have always considered me a bit strange. Now they'll know why!

I've heard so much about people gaining serenity/peace/calm from HRT, and that is what is making it so hard for me to wait the standard three months before I start on hormones... March can't come soon enough for me! :)

IMO it's a largely a placebo effect.
You feel good because you've made a definite step down the path.

Your mileage may vary.

For me personally, the mental/emotional changes were the greatest.
At one point I even had thought that that was sufficient for me.
Being greedy, I decided that I wanted everything.
