I was much along the same lines as well, but Rich Warrens people aren't subjected to hate crimes and death because of their beliefs or their lifestyles!
We cannot let hatred and bigotry of be allowed to be professed as difference of opinion. That would be like inviting the KKK to the inauguration and simply say that they deserve a place in the big tent because they have a different point of view. We simply disagree that lynching and church burning are proper methods of expressing their point of view.
In the grand scheme of things, no it isn't that big a deal. If, somehow, Mr Obama curry's enough political good will from Mr Warren to get ENDA passed without the political right throwing too much of a temper tantrum, or heaven be praised, Mr Warren actually endorses hate crime and ENDA, then I will be happy. This is politics we are talking about here, folks. It's not a job for the faint of heart. If you want to get the job done you have to kiss many different posteriors.
However if this does have some detrimental effects in the long term, then Mr. Obama will have really started his administration on the wrong foot.
I wait and see.
