"I am pleased to hear that Caroline Kennedy through a spokesman expressed support for marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples. In the coming weeks I look forward to hearing in her own voice how she will work to advance equality of [lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender] people," said the executive director of the Empire State Pride Agenda, Alan Van Capelle, who contrasted Kennedy's views to those of Senator Chuck Schumer who, like Senator Hillary Clinton and unlike most of the state's other elected officials, opposes same-sex marriage.
