The truck began following him and continued to do so until the man decided to stop in the Safeway on Bucklin Hill Road, deputies said. There, the truck circled a nearby parking lot before leaving, the man told deputies.

The man said it was a "hate crime" because he was a "transsexual."

The deputy noted the man had painted red fingernails. When asked by deputies how they could have known he was a transsexual, the man said his vehicle is well-known in the community and he didn't know when the truck had actually started following him.
