Transgender students given own set of toilets at university's nightclub

A university has given its transgender students their own set of toilets.  Staffordshire University union's loos are believed to be one of the first dedicated sets in the country and have already been declared a massive success.

I'm not sure which surprises me more: that the Daily Mail wrote a sane article about this topic, or that the university has its own nightclub!

OK for students who are transgendered or androgyne ...

Kinda know who pressured for this ...  >:( ...

But surely most TS students (M2F or F2M) just want to be able to use their gender appropriate loos, without grief or comment ?

Hardly a victory to be seperated from cisgendered folk ... ??? ...

The cisgendered are already seperated themselves. I don't see this as being very different. But in practise it is an inclusive bathroom rather than an exclusive one. Seems like a good thing to me.

I don't want to be inclusive in a bathroom shared with guys ... I still remember the filth, dirt, and urine smell from years back when I had to subject myself to the "Gents" ...

i have to agree Laura.  A case of legitimized segregation, i'm sorry if this may offend but what transsexual would want to be pigeon holed, and made an example of that way.  We are men or women as the case may be and now they have been excluded and lumped in with everyone else.  It may be okay for androgyne, cisgendered, CD's, TV's etc. but TS need to be included with their gender not excluded.  Some victory.  >:(

I guess it is a victory for those that don't want you in their bathrooms.

I've never had an issue with restrooms since earliest transition ... find them a haven of peace, somewhere to touch up lipgloss and do my hair ... and chat with the other women.

Call me bigoted, but if you can't even be comfortable using gender appropriate toilets, then what the f*** are you doing transitioning ... ??? ...

I concur with both of you, Steph and Laura.   I would also be livid if I were to be lumped with everybody else and be treated as a "special case", "different", "out of the ordinary" or whatever.

They have kind of side stepped that issue in this case though don't you think? They are not considered toilets for "transexuals", simply gender neutral toilets. There is no requirement for you to use them.

Common sense ...

Unlike the folk on Yahoo TS-UK who have been cheering this as a big "victory".

Its only a victory for transgendered people at Stafford Uni (i.e. Xaria), but it reeks of segregation to me ... >:( ...
