Top surgery--areola reduction?

Just wondering if anyone here has information on areola reduction during top surgery or as a revision.  Given my small chest size, I believe I am a candidate for periareolar chest surgery.  However, I have abnormally large areolae--nearly 2" in diameter--and have read that areola reduction is limited with the peri.  I also have a rather odd breast malformation--they're tubular (do a Google image search for "tubular breasts" if you're wondering what I'm talking about).  Apparently it's common for tubular breasts to have unusually large areolae...  Anyways, that's prolly something I'll have to talk to the surgeon about.  But if anyone else has/had this malformation & had top surgery already, I'd like to hear about it.  Or, if anyone had success/disappointment with getting their areolae resized (either with a peri or a double-incision), I'd like to hear about that too.

Hmm. I thought peri didn't allow for nipple/areola work. Could be wrong though. I never looked into it much as I'm not a candidate.

I know it might seem I'm a bit off course here,... ::)

....But it may be worth googling and taking a look at "gynecomastia" surgery on Youtube if your looking for options..

..You may be surprised at the variety of what some guys are hiding under their shirts, and the procedures employed...

I've also seen a numder of procedures on large areola under this topic.

(I "suffer" from a less comon form of pseudo-gynacomastia)

Yeah, that's what I have read, too.  However, I've heard some who've had a peri state that a 'revision to reduce areola and/or nipple size is desired.'  Makes me wonder if it's possible.  A double incision probably would give me better nipple/areola size and placement, but that surgery seems, well, overkill given my size.  I'd prefer a peri (less noticeable scars, possibility for keeping sensation), but if my areola stay 2" that might be a deal-breaker.

wouldn't nipple work remove sensation?

One would think any nipple work would impact sensation.  However, in looking up "nipple reduction" on cosmetic surgery sites (not necessarily FTM-specific), I have come across the following statements:

"There are many methods used by various surgeons, including removal of just the top of the nipple, which is then closed with tiny incisions.  Nipple reduction may also involve removing a cylinder of skin around the neck of the nipple, then pushing the nipple back into the breast tissue and suturing the skin closed. Sensation is almost always normal following a nipple reduction"

"Very prominent nipples can be reduced while retaining sensation with a simple office procedure performed under local anesthesia. The scars are virtually undetectable and the results are very predictable."

If anyone wants the actual links to the sites, PM me.  It all sounds promising, though I don't know if by 'retaining sensation' they mean tactile or erotic sensation.

well sounds good. guess you'd have to talk to a surgeon about combining the procedures - peri and nipple/areole.

I'm 6 weeks post-op from double incision and my nipples/areoli were resized and I have pretty good nipple sensation.  Granted, other parts of my chest are numb, but not the nipples.  Go figure.

As far as I know, you're the only person I've ever met that has this "tubular" thing in common with me!

This isn't strictly related or anything, I'm just kind of pleased I'm not the only one.

During my consultation for top surgery I am having a double incision bilateral mas, and my surgeon said that he will have to remove the nipples cutting all of the nerves to resize the height of the actual nipple and to reduce the size of the areola.

I am planning to get peri done in June or July and as far as I have heard from the doctors I have spoken to they do areola reductions. I haven't spoken to any of them in person yet, just over the phone and through emails. But I am pretty sure they will.

(do a Google image search for "tubular breasts" if you're wondering what I'm talking about).
I keep reading tubular breasts with a surfer accent. "Those breasts are totally tubular dude. HANG TEN!"

Erm yeah... unfortunately I have nothing useful to add. *leaves*
