http://www.afterelton.com/blog/brianjuergens/nominations-20th-annual-glaad-media-awards-afterelton?&comment=64716Today GLAAD announced the nominees for the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which recognize excellence in promoting LGBT diversity in media and entertainment. Unsurprisingly, many of the movies and shows discussed here on a regular basis have been nominated, including Milk, Brideshead Revisited, Shelter, True Blood, Brothers & Sisters, Ugly Betty, Greek, Desperate Housewives, Torchwood, Skins, and Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.
Overall, ABC scored the most nods of any broadcast network for its diversity-promoting lineup. In addition to the regular awards, gay ally Tyra Banks will be given the Excellence in Media Award for her work promoting diversity on her Top Model shows and talk show, and lesbian finance expert Suze Orman will receive the Vito Russo Award, granted to an out gay person in the media who has made significant contributions to promoting equal rights.
For the second year,
AfterElton.com has been recognized with the nomination of James Hillis's investigative report, Gays in Primetime (here's Part II). Last year James was nominated (and won) with his piece Gay Newsmen: A Clearer Picture. Atta boy, Hillis!
