High school to separate boys, girls in some math classes

D.C. Everest Senior High School will separate boys from girls in Algebra II next year is an effort to put students more at ease among peers, teachers say.

"I've got very, very intelligent young ladies who outperform (other students) in my classroom, but they are not as active in participating in class," said Ann Geier, a math teacher at Everest who will teach a class of up to 30 girls. "I'm always interested in seeing how my girls do, being a woman math teacher."

I think that's a good idea

It depends on your point of view.  During highschool, this would have been quite traumatizing and toturous to me.  In highschool, I took a math class this one year and I think it mostly had girls in it.  I can't remember the exact circumstances, but I ended up in a group with all girls, so that was pretty awesome.  Thinking back, I didn't act like a typical guy, so they never seemed uncomfortable around me.  Come to think of it, something like that happened in an english class too.  Again, they didn't seem uncomfortable.  I wonder why.

That reminds me of my small group communication class in college.

The first day she had us take a personality test. Which defined our personality and then she corraled us into groups based on our personality scores.

I was placed in one group (out of a possible 7 different personality groups) with 6 other girls. She made the comment, "Wow, it's rare for a man to be sensative, artistic and socially emotional."

I dropped the class that day out of embarassment and added a different section when another professor.

But that is another element that helped you realize that you don't belong in the "man" category, yes?

This classroom idea is very beneficial to women, and may help transsexual individuals realize that they need to do something.

Actually, I hadn't even remembered about that until I typed that post.  I just remember being very happy with the arrangement both times.  The thing is, by separating the groups, I would not have had that experience.  However, I see your point in that it would have only increased the discomfort of being in the wrong gender and thus propmted action.

As a child i ended many times with girls. I am still quit in shame  about that.
When the pubertity came I ended to be myself. However I can write about my experiences to Just for Us, not here.
