Travelling to Thailand & having GRS was very expensive & I'm trying to save money as much as I can. Do you think generic premarin works the same as the real mones? Have you got any experience on this?

Just go for Estradiol, which can be had at $4/month at Walmart or Kroger (other places, too, I'm sure).  Premarin is derived from horse urine, and is an old-style hormone; things contained within it are not meant for the human body to break down, and therefore it will be harder on your liver.

FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) announced today that at this time it will not approve synthetic generic forms of the estrogen-replacement drug Premarin. This is because these generic products have not been shown to contain the same active ingredients, and therefore to work the same, as the original drug in treating women with menopausal symptoms and preventing osteoporosis.

In her announcement, CDER's director, Janet Woodcock, M.D., said, "Based on currently available data, there is at this time no way to assure that synthetic generic forms of Premarin have the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug. This is essential for determining they are equivalent to the brand drug, and is also a legal requirement for their approval."

Are (PRESCRIPTION) synthetic estrogens the same as the natural ones?  Yes, chemically they are exactly the same thing; they have to be; otherwise, they can't be approved by the FDA.   Unfortunately some people still believe that "synthetic" means "artificial", but this is not always true.  Synthetic merely means made or produced in a laboratory rather than in a biological organism.

Make the change, Valentina!   Give the horsies a little break! you won't regret it!

I'm surprised it's actually still on the market.

Yeah, the feeling is mutual.  I mean, if more physicians were educated on the cruel and horrid conditions these poor mares live in (i.e, forced to stand for six months straight in tiny stalls while pregnant, deprived of water so their urine is more potent, unable to move around or lay down, etc, etc), perhaps they would prescribe alternatives and maybe then the Premarin empire would fall.  However, I don't see that happening anytime soon *sigh* Ooooh don't get me started on this, for I really don't wish to do this here.
