OK we all make a big (apocalyptic) deal about coming out, myself included but i was wondering has anyone ever got any really funny or even slightly amusing stories about it. did anyone react in an amusing way? or say something funny?

I did my best to make light of the issue but almost everyone else acted like I killed someone.

best friend (female): "really?... eh.. figures"

friend from college (when another friend told her): "so shes finally getting in touch with her inner b*tch huh"

college theatre friend (also told by another friend): "so THATS how she was able to play a female character so well"

Nothing too hilarious, but amusing to me.

a few people have said things along the lines of "ah.  that totally makes sense"

but the best one was pretty recently.  a genetic male friend went into a whole rave about how it might be kindof cool to have girl parts for a little while but hed feel really horrible and hate himself and be really depressed if he had to live with it forever.  i was like awwww!!! thats so sweet. :D  you know exactly how i feel.  ive never had anyone relate to it like that. :)

Hi
Yes, my sister in law was at the front door. My wife is disabled and at that time was home with me. I said to her, "I'm not going to get changed back" she said fine, went to the door and said " be ready for a big suprise", and then opened it " Oh my God, your gorgeous". I cooked dinner that night for the three of us. My other sister in law, and BIL were told because I needed their help. Jenny said "Oh I've known for years"  "what's the issue"

LoL

hehe. I think I might win.

I told a guy after we dated for a while in highschool. It was getting serious so I thought he should know. His response was:

"Is it bigger than mine?"

::)

Actually just prior to my coming out was probably the most fun I had in many years. I was staying temporarily with a friend and her three children. And on every other night I would go out with her to do some shopping or visit her friends, always brought extra clothes because I knew it would turn out into a modeling clothes night and I of course loved showing off and getting the compliments on how good I looked as an older woman.

My friend ended up having to go away for drug rehabilitation and I had her three children in my care. I was out full time the last years I had her three children in my care. It was a wonderful experience to be walking about town and shopping with the children just like any other mommy. I beleive that this was what to a greater extent helped a lot to build trust and validity with the citizens of that town.

Actually I have had only one bad incident in all the time i have lived full time for 9 years as Cindy.

It wasn't really about "coming out" 'cause everybody knew about me pretty much my whole life but it was hilarious....

I had a cousin a few years older than me that I used to hang out with sometimes. He was tall, handsome (actually a REAL HUNK!) and went off to join the navy when I was about 16 . I left home while he was away and I never saw him again.

More than 30 years later I found out that he travelled through my area regularly so I sent him an email suggesting we meet the next time he was in town and he said he would like that so we arranged to meet in the lobby of his hotel and go for dinner.

I was at the hotel at the appointed time and the only one in the lobby was a short, fat, balding man reading his newspaper so I hung around waiting for my tall handsome cousin. The appointed time came and went and nobody else who came through the lobby seemed to be looking for anyone.

Finally, as I walked past the short chubby fellow reading the paper I noticed he took a long look at me so I turned to him and said "John?" - he called me by name!

I said to him "Oh my how you have changed!"

He looked me up and down and laughed! He said "And you say I have changed !! ?????"

;D ;D ;D

THAT had to rank as my dumbest statement EVER, even for a blond!   ::)

The most amusing reaction I got from someone I told was:

"You better rock a pair of DD's!"

About two years ago, I went to a gender therapist to make 'it' stop.  He suggested a weekly or monthly going out with the girls.  My ex would never have stood for that so I never told her.  After we split up, I went back to him for help in transition.  His reaction was "I knew you would be back".  So I guess that is as good of a diagnosis.  ;D

I tried to be so careful with the wording (and took a long time getting to the point) that my two best friends thought I was confessing to being a serial murderer at first 'cos I couldn't just flat out say "I'm transsexual". Didn't help that I told the second one just after we'd finish watching Jekyll and opened with the line "what would you say if I told you I had another side to my personality?"  :-\

another close friend just refused to believe me even though I showed her my drugs, asked her to correlate the story with other friends  and promised it wasn't a joke. She didn't believe me 'til she moved in with us and saw my bedroom. I've had quite a few people think it was a joke actually 'cos I've  been known to pull weird pranks...I had another friend who I told almost a year ago only just realise I was serious last month.

I had my first gig as Sally two weeks ago at a pub that I have a lot of acquaintances at, and going in I thought it could very well be the end of my music career. Most people avoided me and kept giving sideways stares until word spread round about why Scott had boobs now, then they were all over me wanting to congratulate/ask if it's a joke/say nice gig (it was a shocking gig, I was very nervous!)/ask if it's really not a joke etc. One of my old teachers just randomly showed up too and he kissed my hand! I like that pub  ;D

Not so much the hand kissing though.  :-X

Probably the most comical moment for me was when I told my friend from work. He sighed a exaggerated sigh of relief  and said "For a minute there I thought you were going to tell me you were gay!"

An older guy friend from work wanted to know if "it was going to hurt a lot".

I asked him if what was going to hurt and he said "when they bash half of your brains out".

Lol. His joke about srs I guess.
