Results have recently been released for an impressive study undertaken by Caitlin Ryan and her Family Acceptance Project team:

Caitlin Ryan argues that being armed with these new statistics, the social services / medical community can now convince families that rejection may lead to destructive behavours, even suicide. She stresses that previously, without the statistics, any warnings of this nature didn't carry the kind of weight they do now. OK, I'll believe that the statistical information might be more convincing to parents than an experienced social worker simply telling the parents that they have seen a lot of terrible things happen to rejected lgbt kids on the street. But is it that a $2.9 million dollar difference??
