Well I have my first appointment with a therapist on Friday. I just turned 18 and Ive been wanting to do this for to long now, so I finally decided I would take some action. I still haven't told my parents yet (uber religious parents) but either way I'm excited, and its gona be covered under insurance to  :icon_walk:

But on the other hand, this will be the first person ive ever told in person so im kinda nervous, and I know EVENTUALLY ill have to tell my parents... since I live at home.  :icon_blah:

I hope all goes well for you. It will probably (I hope) be nice to have someone to talk to.
Good luck!

Yea, im looking forward to talking to someone. It will feel weird to be talking about something that most people consider abnormal but the fact that the therapist has guided people through this before is comforting, atleast it means im not going through anything new.

Maybe your therapist can help with the parent problem, too.  Or at least give you and out to express yourself.

I just did this.

RELAX!  ;D
It's not like they are going to read you the riot act or be judgmental.

Your first will probably just to get a basic history and get to know you, so nothing to stress over. I doubt you could be more of a basket case than I was.  :D

It will be good, don't worry, especially if this person has experience with T.G., it is normal to them. They deal with people have much worse problems.

Congrats on the appointment, the first step is the hardest. Just relax and be completely open and honest. This first session will be getting to know you and your therapist will lead you but it's up to you to answer honestly, it helps if you write things down on a pad that you want to ask so you don't forget something.
As far as Insurance goes mine pays everything except the copay, my therapist codes my sessions as depression and anxiety with a secondary of GID.
Let us know how it goes.

Paula.

YES! Do this.
Odds are you will be so nervous that you will not be able to think of anything to ask. A few things written down is a good idea. Your therapist may even tell you to start doing that between sessions. Mine has me keep a journal of thoughts and questions. At first I was worried I would have nothing in it, was I ever wrong.  :D

Just got back, everything went fine. There gonna classify it as depression so I can use my insurance. We talked for an hour, she was very understanding and said she has had a few transsexuals in the past. So everything went well.

Congratulations Liliana! I'm sure you are relieved to get that first session over with.  I think most if not all of us have fretted over that "first session".  I hope all goes well on your following sessions!  Hugs.
