Patient sues over sex change op

A man who underwent gender reassignment surgery to become a woman — but later resumed living as a man — is suing psychiatrists who treated him at the gender dysphoria clinic in Melbourne's Monash Medical Centre.

I think you should have to sign a unbreakable release before getting a letter for hormones and surgery to prevent abuses like this. If the psych did not push someone who clearly did not meet the criteria into the transition process then personal responsibility should apply.

We all make our choices, obviously this person made their own choice and should own that choice. It isn't like something you can say "just kidding" or "someone decided for me" at that age

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

What I don't understand is if he didn't think it would work, why did he still go through with it? You do have to sign consent forms for surgery, if I'm not mistaken. They can't just cut you up without your consent, right? (I've never had surgery so I wouldn't know, but this seems pretty "duh" to me.)

I agree, "Duh" would be the correct term. I think this person is just looking for a way to suck some money

This is probably the best argument to me that the ICLTEP Standards of Care and Release should apply either instead of or in conjunction with WPATH's.

QFT. What's all this crap about it being someone else's fault. You make a choice, you live with it. Change it if you can, at your own expense, but don't blame other people for your bad choices imo.

Yes exactly!

I've been a patient of the Monash Clinic and Dr Kennedy for around ten years now and I think I can safely say that whoever is suing them is talking nonsense. Dr Kennedy is a hard woman to like or get along with, but she is always very, VERY cautious about making sure everything is in the patient's best interest and is extremely thourough in her diagnosis.

I've never heard of any of the other doctors in the article, so I'm not sure if they're even connected with the clinic. But if everything the patient said in the article was true, Dr Kennedy (The head of the clinic) would no way allow treatment.

She's a massive stickler for the rules. I smell a liar. This will fizzle out pretty fast I think.

There was a similar case here in the united kingdom with Dr Reid, a verry sweet nice man trying to do good and the right thing by his patients.

If your not right for srs then why are you leading the therapist down to say you are.

The guy was on the news last year and said in the interview "they" misdiagnosed him, but the interviewer never challenged him that he gave all the signs and signals he was trans and wanted to be and live as a woman. The guy seems to have forgotten personal responsibility.

"This guy" lived as a woman for ten years or more. "He" got married and has posted the "leaving the church" photos of it. "He" is, I think, now living in England with his mum. "He" refuses to base anything at all on "his" own volition.

True, I was a patient of Dr Reid many years ago.

He got done over by an attention seeking idiot who was used by those b******s at a noted london hospital to get rid of him.

He was a nice guy and a good doctor, may he enjoy his retirement in Italy close to where I used to live.

Hmmmm....funny...I don't think anyone put a gun to these people's heads and told them to have SRS, correct?  Basically it comes to this:  If you have SRS for the wrong reasons and then "regret" it, deal with it.  Don't go around bitching, moaning, and suing doctors and therapists for something that you are solely responsible.

Wasn't there a similar case last year or is this the same case, what is wrong with this person, we go thru the process, we make our choices, can't blame anyone else.
I went thru a lengthly process, my Mother family etc where all involved at the time, then I made the final choice, my Mother wanted me to have the surgery and actively encourage me, but the final discision + choice was up to ME!
I choose to have gender reassignment surgery, Im now a complete woman, nobody put a gun to my head,it worked out ok, but if it didn't, I can't sue anybody, only myself, end of story.

If your going thru hell, just keep going.

Ugh.  What a butthole.  This guy just makes things tougher for the rest of the community.  How selfish can you be?  I hope he loses.
