My spouse who I am legally married to when I was male, informed me that her insurance provider ANTHEM no longer covers me because they do not recognize same sex marriages. They don't recognize my legal hetero marriage because we are now same sex. So get this... We are going to apply for a domestic partnership in California to keep me covered! This way we will be not only married but in a domestic partnership.  Sounds like it might be illegal but the domestic partnership only asks that we swear that we are not married to someone ELSE.  We aren't, we are married to each other.

Before I transitioned, my ex was on my insurance.  My employer had us as married.  After I transitioned, they asked if we were still married and of course we were.  So they changed the status to Domestic Partners.  My employer recognizes Domestic Partners, regardless of state.  And our insurance company Is Kaiser Permanente.

Is it just me or does this whole thing sound far to overly complex just because of a label?

By the time all of it is finished, I wonder how many millions in programming and lobbying will have been spent just to avoid calling it marriage.

How confusing! Kinda makes me glad my wife and I got divorced before I came out. I don't think she'd handle it well.

It isn't about labels.  It is about a fair and equatable health care coverage.  What does being married or domestic partners have to do with health care?

And before someone begins talking about AIDS.  Remember that even a heterosexual couple can contract AIDS.

It is about equal coverage.

And billions of dollars are being spent by the Christian Reich to stop equality.

Oh Maggs, we need to talk.   Among other things I don't think the insurance company can legally do that if your marriage is still valid.  Which I know it is.  We have some friends visiting tomorrow but I'll try and give you a call this weekend.
