a question from a newbie.

Hello. I joined yesterday and have been reading through a few threads and finding a great deal of helpful info there. I have a TG friend (we only communicate electronically) who first presented himself as a gay man but who eventually told me he is FTM (and also not straight).  He is painfully shy about talking about some things which is why I came here, in an attempt to learn more. I know a lot already but I need to hear the voices of trans people on many issues.

My question is: is it considered bad form to post on other threads if there is something I want to know and comment on? I currently post on a forum which has a majority of gay members (I'm straight) and I am quite comfortable posting there in any thread, but I'm not so sure it would be the correct thing to do here.

Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.

hi minnie, and welcome

this section is sort of off limits for TG folks, this is for SO's of TG people to talk to other SOs and we tend to give them their space.

there might be some confusion about sexuality and gender identity. being straight/gay is your sexuality and identifying male/female/andro is more your gender identity.

for questions pertaining to sexuality, regardless of TG conditions there is a forum in the general discussion section called sexuality. for gender identity there is a general transgender section witch is more generic in the community section, and then also specific sub forums for FTM and MTF.

most of these lines blur quite often, so if you feel your contribution to a thread is on topic, feel free to post where ever you please

Hi eliza beth and thank you for helping. I'm sure if I barge in anywhere I'm not welcome I'll soon find out. I just thought it might be a good idea to get an idea of protocol first. Given that this area is, as you say, sort of off-limits, I thought the reverse might apply, and I didn't want to cause any offence or upset.

Hehe. People are pretty easy-going here, except for obviously emotive topics like transgender vs. transsexual or open vs. stealth. For the most part though, people welcome different opinions, threads sometimes branch off into the weirdest forms of thread-drift you'll ever see, and people are eager to help and give advice and support one another. So don't worry hon - it's highly unlikely that you'll ruffle feathers simply by posting somewhere.

Welcome to our little family. Over 2100 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion. Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers.  Give and receive advice.
