THEY dressed for the occasion. Dresses and pumps, lipstick and nail polish, jeans and T-shirts. They converged at the Grant Sawyer building downtown Friday. These transgendered people -- men-turned-women, women-turned-men -- were here to testify on bills that would prohibit discrimination against them. But a funny thing happened on the way to civil equality: Where oh where did their precious amendment go?
See, there was supposed to have been an amendment proposed for state Sen. David Parks' Senate Bill 207 that would make it illegal for a business to discriminate against gays and lesbians. The amendment would have included language to cover gender identity as well. That is, a business couldn't deny service to a trans person.
