Katie

Hi, everyone.  I'm not really sure what to say about myself, so here goes:  I'm a 23 year old senior in college and I'm MtF.  I realized very young that I wasn't exactly what I appeared to be in the mirror.  I actually began dressing as a female and going in public in my late teens but then I moved (with my family) from my wonderfully tolerant city to a place with a smaller population and "less tolerance," so I stopped before I was 20.  That was really depressing. :(  Anyways, I don't think I can really start transitioning right now because I am unemployed.  That is also depressing. :(  Any suggestions on what I might be able to get started?

Hi Katie,   :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 2100 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion. Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers.  Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now.  And it is always nice to have another sister.   :icon_hug:

As always start with a gender therapist.  Check with the local GLBT chapter.  Maybe find a local chapter of a Trans group.

Welcome Katie!
maybe you could try talking to your school counselor and go from there.

Hi Katie and Welcome  :)

I would suggest keeping your grades up so you can get a good job and live your life and dreams as you wish
The main things to remember in life are Love, Kindness, Understanding and Respect - Always make forward progress

Hi Katie
I think Virginia has the number here. Plan for the future, get a good education so that you can escape and get your life back.

Hi Katie and welcome to Susan's, i agree with everyone, keep your grades up so you can get a good job, transitioning sucks up allot of cash. Things you can do now... Hummm let me see, no cash to get your facial hair removed, you can do that when you do have money ,but it should be top on your list, you can start working on your voice, this to should be at the top of the list too as it can take years to perfect it, Google voice and you will find allot of free resources, Start growing your hair but depending what on your major is you might have to cut it when you get a job, depends on the company and how strict their rules are.

Some college's have a gender program, never hurts to ask. You will need to see a therapist to help sort out things. Since you are about finished till the fall maybe you could try to get a part time job, any kind of job to bring in some money.

HUGS

Paula.
