Keep order in and out of court

Greeley will once again find itself in the national spotlight this week.

The first-degree murder trial of Allen Andrade begins in Weld District Court Tuesday. Andrade is accused in the brutal beating death last year of Angie Zapata.

Of course, as most know, what makes this trial unique is that Zapata was a transgender woman, born male but living her life as a woman. According to the police investigators, Andrade is suspected of beating Zapata to death after a sexual encounter revealed the victim's gender.

Much of the attention surrounding this trial has to do with the transgender issue. Many members of the gay, lesbian and transgender community from all over the nation are planning to attend the trial, to blog, report or just observe. Others who morally and/or religiously oppose the transgender lifestyle have also said they will attend.
