Paris is Burning represented gay culture as much as a movie about ninjas would represent Asians. Black, transgendered people are a very miniscule part of the gay subculture and many would argue that they are not even a part of the gay subculture anymore. Transgendered people were categorized as gay up until the nineties when they really began breaking out as a separate group. Most transgendered people do not consider themselves to be homosexual. For instance, a man who believes he is a woman thinks he was born into the wrong body and is a woman who likes men, not a man at all. Ironically, the transgender image was transposed to homosexuals, a very misleading stereotype. Gays and lesbians do not want to be the opposite gender. Lesbians are attracted to other women and gay men to other men.

And we're talking about a 19 year old film why?  And it never claimed to be about gay culture, its about the drag ball culture in New York City, period.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
