The applicant explains in the letter that traveling as a woman has become markedly more complicated after the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, due to the increased security checks at airports.

"For me this has made it virtually impossible to travel as a woman. I therefore make a plea that these rules be liberalized such that trans-persons have the opportunity to have two passports," the applicant wrote.

Hogwash, this person needs one pasport like everyone else. Pick one or the other, or don't travel. Oh please make a special rule for me... Sheesh!

I have to agree Sandi...  You are or you aren't, pick one, although if they are TS they should have no difficulty doing that.

I agree, two passports would be rediculous.  Once you transition you only need one, if you haven't transitioned, I guess you have to dress in drab.

You do not need to dress in drab.  You can if that's how you want to be seen. ::) Just have all the proper ID in case you are questioned.  You have a legal right to travel dressed however you feel and if they want to question your rights, then so be it.  So far I have never heard of anybody being stopped for travelling with a passport that says M on it.  You think people who work in these places have never seen a transsexual before?  Sheesh.

I was going to cancel this, but I don't see a cancel key, so I will just put junk in here.  I do know that as a transsexual, you can get a passport with female on it that is good for I think six months so that you can travel out of the country for surgery.

Actually it's a year and you need to have some sort of letter that says you are signed up for SRS.  I wasn't frustrated with you, but more the idea that some people think that they will get in big trouble for flying en femme.  Sorry if I made you feel bad. :)

No problem Melissa, I tend to get defensive sometimes.  It pays if I reread things and wait to answer.

Hmmm, it would be nice if I could get two.  My reasoning would be due to the fact that the state I live in will not let me revert to my previous name but the feds have let me.  That pretty much means I am forced to untransition every time I take to the airways since they only accept a drivers license.  Of course I cannot get a passport in the correct name because my home state will not change the birth certificate until after SRS is completed and I lack the court ordered name change due to the issues with the state.

My goal next year is to have just one legal name again.   ;)

There was a similar story not long ago in the UK, when the Government disclosed the long awaited draft bill on National Identity cards. The concept was that pre-op transsexuals (or those without a Gender Recognition Certificate) would be issued with two cards (one in either gender), in the Governments words " to make things easier for them".

Needless to say there has been much debate over this issue (which has not yet been resolved). The really good thing for the Government of course is that UK citizens will have to pay for them. Just think how much they can charge people who are Schizophrenic and have multiple personalities.

I agree what Steph put .... If you are TS choose your gender.
