The Quiet Coup
Simon Johnson. The Atlantic. May 2009. (Issue)

The crash has laid bare many unpleasant truths about the United States. One of the most alarming, says a former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, is that the finance industry has effectively captured our government—a state of affairs that more typically describes emerging markets, and is at the center of many emerging-market crises. If the IMF's staff could speak freely about the U.S., it would tell us what it tells all countries in this situation: recovery will fail unless we break the financial oligarchy that is blocking essential reform. And if we are to prevent a true depression, we're running out of time.

We helped create the world bank and gave the power to corporations. Lobbying did the trick. The Frankenstein we have created might only be stopped by revolution.

Lisa, the Frankenstein we created isn't the World Bank. It's Wall Street and the Ponzi-players there!

The  Ponzi-players is only a small part of exploitation of the average person. The world bank will only finance projects that use large corporations that then rape the resources and make slaves of the poor populations. Like charging 25% of a annual income for limited water for a family. The world bank has helped Walmart go international.

Only when people begin to stand up and say no more will there be change. Some countries have taken to the streets and created grass roots organizations that speak to their interests.

I'm a volunteer with a group that seeks to create an independent media that address the concerns of poor and working people. we the people are the ones who can affect change.
