HB415 killed

I don't have any news items yet, I listened to NH Senate online, they voted HB415 (bill adding gender identity and expression to state anti discrimination laws) inexpedient to legislate  damn them!!

Sen Martha Fuller Clark, co-sponsor of the bill, gave an impassioned speech denouncing those who turned it into the "bathroom bill" and literally flushed it down the toilet.

The Senate voted unanimously against adding transgender individuals to New Hampshire's anti-discrimination law, but only after Democrats condemned what they said were distortions by opponents. Republicans called it the "bathroom bill" based on the argument it would open all bathrooms to both men and women, putting women and children at risk in women's rooms. Supporters said that amounted to painting a straightforward anti-discrimination bill as something it wasn't. They said it would protect a vulnerable group who identify with the gender opposite of their birth. Thirteen states and the District of Columbia have laws banning discrimination based on transgender status.

Concord – The New Hampshire Senate today unanimously rejected a bill that would have extended anti-discrimination laws to transgendered people.

House Bill 415 would have protected those with sexual identity issues in areas of housing and employment, much the way the state's laws protects others from discrimination on the basis of color, race, religion or sexual orientation.

Those who fought the bill said it would open women's bathrooms, changing rooms and locker rooms to sexual predators who could raise a defense in court that they were sexually confused.

Unfortunately, that joyous news was countered by the awful action by this action by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

    The committee then voted 5-0 to recommend that the full Senate kill the transgender rights bill. The bill adds the term "gender identify or expression" to state anti-discrimination and hate crimes laws.
