The ongoing gay, lesbian and transgender saga at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs took another turn Saturday when students elected Daniel Garcia and James Burge as president and vice president of the student body. Both men are openly gay.

Garcia and Burge are to be congratulated. But nobody should celebrate this as a victory over discrimination. It is precisely the opposite. It is a victory of discrimination, and one for which no one should apologize.
