To be fair to her - and not like Beauty Contests are fair or anything - I thought the question about gay marriage was a bit more political then most pageant questions tend to be, which seem to focus on things like "Who was the most important person in your life and why?" (Winning answer is either your parents, or some family member, or a teacher). Or something vague about the need for more education about something. I don't see where her answer was all that bad (for a pageant answer that is).
I do these things (at least one or two a year) and we (stagehands) can sit there and guess the answers they are so pat and rote.
Though we often want to sneak in and put some questions in about math problems.
