I had a treatment of IPL today, I was alittle concerned but I was shown before and after photos which is why I went along with it. It certainly felt exactly like what everyone here has described when going with the "conventional" method, It hurt alot (As much as if I were pulling out the hairs with tweezers) and my skin feels like it's been sunburned and red and there was also that smell of burning hair about. I was also told to expect the hair to fall out.

the internet seems ambiguous about it's long term lasting effects which has me worried.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intense_pulsed_light Namely it says both.

effectiveness between Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Epilation is debated by scientists, equipment manufacturers and practitioners, but results are generally accepted to be roughly equivalent.
And this at the same time.
IPL's (Intense Pulsed Light) work more directly on the top layers of the skin and do not penetrate deep enough to damage hair germ cells, without potential damage to the epidermis.

I don't know if someone's been tampering with the page or not. I've also been looking online but alot of those places are obviously trying to sell me IPL treatments over lasers.

So I think I will ask you guys has anyone else had this treatment and it IS permanent right?

Pebbles I have two friends who had their hair removal done with IPL and they were very happy with the results. Based on their recommendations and my own experiences with electrolysis I chose to get IPL as well. I'm on my 13th session and it is working well but I still have a way to go yet, I think it's probably going to take 20-25 sessions to be done and I don't expect to have any regrowth after that.

I must ask about this at my therapy session this week, as my councillor does both laser and IPL.

I have had both. First started with IPL with six sessions but it did not have the same reduction as laser. After 2 sessions of laser there is real hair reduction by about 50percent I'm on my third and about 80percent. I guess laser works better for me as it goes deeper and I have deep roots.

Also there is a debate on hrt and laser. Some say the reduction in quicker when on HRT for six plus months than just laser. Hope I'm making sense here.

I was having Laser (Chronos) at first, but most of my stubble is a mid brown and apparently laser works far better on darker hair so I switched to IPL.
Results overall are slow, but I have to say - there is one patch on my neck that I absolutely know was hairy and after just one session of IPL that included that area, not a single hair has ever grown there since, a 2" x 1" bald patch now.  There is a similar patch under my chin. Elsewhere, things are slow and not as clear-cut, but IPL definitely sorted those two areas absolutely.
To those who understand, I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am
Not under your command, I know where I stand
I won't change to fix your plan, Take me as I am (Dreamtheatre - As I Am)
I started out with nothing..... and I still have most of it left.

Tried both. Both appeared to work well at the time. Many moons later, full regrowth. So now doing needle electro when I can and hope to head to E3K. I never had much hair to begin with so it probably will not take too long.

E3K? What is that?

Thanks

E3000 in Texas, used to be E2000 before that. They numb and pluck. One or two operators at a time and a lot done at once. I plan on scheduling 16 hours with two ops in the near future.

Yip, just outside of Dallas. It specializes in "marathon" electrolysis. Renowned for excellent service. . .and great cost.
