I like studying. I like staying up 'til the wee hours reading. I derive significant masochistic pleasure from being high on caffeine and pulling consecutive all-nighters writing essays about who-knows-what so that in a month's time when I get my results back I can grin like a Cheshire cat because my self-inflicted sleep deprivation has paid off. But there comes a point in every student's life when the thought "crazy cat lady/man" appears from nowhere and refuses to give up its strangle-hold on your sleep-deprived, conversation-starved mind...

In other words, I have 200ish more words to go and am bored witless (which could explain why I'm not progressing any).

I know there are quite a few students here, I can't be alone in my crazy cat man temptation. Anyone else have essay/study issues they'd love to share to relieve the tedium?

What is it that you are learning? Is it improving you life or just making you a better slave?

Good question. ;D

No-one has ever asked this of me, nor expected it, not even my parents (I'm actually *not* doing what Mum wants me to do, which is to get a government job), and anything I've ever not enjoyed I've not put any effort into and gone well enough without doing spectacularly. I didn't give a toss about maths at school, and did enough to not fail (though even that happened a few times :P). I like what I'm studying (Spanish), I find what we're doing at the moment inherently interesting (the discovery, violence and humanity of the conquest of the Americas), so it's not like what I'm currently doing, or doing generally, is pointless or worthless, given that the whole violence-humanity conflict doesn't seem to have changed much in the last few centuries, or indeed millennia. What I'm doing is purely of my own volition. It's just...constant, I guess. Which is alright, I'm hopeless over the summer holidays when uni's on holidays.

I'm just having fun complaining, and was wondering if anyone felt like doing the same.  :)

Welcome to my world.

Why use one word when seven will do?

I wish I HAD a summer break, but no... I have to be the perfectionist and go year 'round. -_- Sigh.

"Why use one word when seven will do?"

Good advice. I shall employ this technique on the research paper I have to push from five pages to eight. By tomorrow. *headdesk*
