When you think that the defendant's attorney wanted to place partial blame for this brutal killing on Gwen because she was trans, it sends chills up my spine. How anyone can blame the victim is beyond comprehension.
If it was a robbery case would you expect the defendant's attorney to say "Your honor, if the victim hadn't been so rich my client would have never felt compelled to rob them"? I don't think so.
But when it comes to crimes of passion there are people out there who are capable of getting wrapped up in their own emotions (prejudices) and can actually justify committing a crime.
And they say we don't need hate crime legislation?
