I really don't follow any of the traditions... I'm sort of my own breed.
Simply solitary... I'm more of an energy-involved person.
(from my MySpace blog)
I've been practicing Wicca since I was about 13. From as far back as I can remember, I was always fascinated with the moon and how it changed. Even as a little kid, I'd sit for hours just staring at it. There was something that drew me to it. I remember that I felt this overpowering energy coming from it.
Beyond that, I've always really felt grounded when I was in the mountains or around water sources. I always liked the energy that I felt from it. When I was 13, I wanted to know more and began to search for my path and found Wicca.
At first I thought that ALL Wiccans called up spirits and put hexes and evil curses on people. Over time I learned that that definition wasn't 100% accurate. Yes, there are those in the Witch community that work in dark magick. I'm definitely not one of them.
My personal calling is in drawling and redirecting energy. This can be energy from the earth, nature, animals, people, the moon... pretty much anything. I'm VERY energy sensitive. How I do it is hard to explain. It's largely a mental thing. I've practiced enough that I can actually "throw" energy. I showed this to a dear friend of mine once and it floored her. We were sitting in my room one night and I was trying to explain it to her. I had her close her eyes. I didn't tell her what I was doing. I moved my hand up and down her arm without actually touching her. I kept my hand about 4 inches away from her skin. The feeling she described was it felt like there was hot air coming out of my hand.
I'm not saying I can move things with my mind or anything like that. I just seem to have a way with moving energy.
Wicca, for me, is about tapping into that energy. Wicca is the belief that God AND Goddess exist and co-exist. Goddess exists in the Moon. God exists in the Sun. Wicca is the belief that there is balance in everything.
"When one defines oneself as [Wiccan],
it means she or he follows an earth or nature religion,
one that sees the divine manifest in all creation.
The cycles of nature are our holy days, the earth is our temple,
its plants and creatures our partners and teachers.
We worship a deity that is both male and female,
a mother Goddess and a father God,
who together created all that is, was, or will be.
We respect life, cherish the free will of sentient beings,
and accept the sacredness of all creation." - Edain McCoy
