CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County school board members said Thursday they may consider a student or employee's sexual orientation as part of the county's cultural-diversity policy.

New language in the proposed policy says students and staff members in the school system will maintain an atmosphere of respect for individuals regardless of economic status, intellectual ability, race, national origin, religion, gender, age, marital status, disability -- and now, sexual orientation.
