I have just learned of an opportunity for members of the Trans
community to show their support for an important action.
On this Friday, May 22nd, Peter LaBarbera, leader of Illinois
Family Institute, IFI, (a recently labeled "hate group", by the
Southern Law Center), is planning a rally downtown Friday,
11:30am, at the Thompson Center, (Adams and Dearborn
Streets).
According to their publicity, the two principle aims of the event
are support of the anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act,
(which directly affects members of the Trans community),
and against the proposed Freedom of Choice Act.
LaBarbera was the principle force behind two failed attempts to get
an anti-gay referendum on Illinois's ballot.
He now heads the even more virulent gay-hating group called
Americans for Truth About Homosexuality.
(It doesn't take a rocket scientist to imagine what these groups
think and say about the Trans community.)
Gay Liberation Network activists and supporters will gather at
11;15am across the street from the State of Illinois Building, on
Randolph, to help counter the hate mongers who strive to impose
their views on Americans.
The GLN has ALWAYS stood totally with the Trans community.
This is a day when we should be standing there, with them.
