Hi everyone,

I came across a site called Medical Tourism Corporation, after hearing about medical tourism on the news.  I have contacted them about SRS in Thailand with DR. Greechart Pornsinsirirak.  They have a good method.  First they give you a quote.  And then once you pay a deposit they set up fights, hotels, the doctor and hospital,  etc.

I am wondering to things and I need to see if anyone knows.  One: has anyone used this kind of service?  Two: When you get your passport, do you need to list your current gender?  And afterwards, how do you change it when you are in country?

Now all I need is about $12,000 and I am off to Thailand.

Janet Lynn...

Passport is "current gender."

The letter the surgeon gives you starts the process of changing the marker on your passport.

I thought that might be the case.  What shots would I need to go to Thailand?  Or will the passport people tell me?

Also Janet Lynn I have an overall site idea.

Thailand has been having political unrest as of late. Near coup about two months ago. Martial Law in Bangkok that sort of unrest.

It may be a good idea to sticky post the US State Dept and the British Overseas Office pages regarding travel advisories. The Brits are much more explicit in their warnings. The US is way more shall we say vague, for economic reasons.

Per the CDC http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/thailand.aspx
I'm guessing you'll be fine with hep a/b vaccines if everything else health-wise is ok.

Hi Janet
Lots of Aussies are going to Thailand for cosmetic holidays. Far cheaper than at home. There are the usual horror stories but there will always be from anywhere. Thailand runs at many levels, the "goverment" is essentially the army junta. They are repressive to the native people but one of the major incomes is tourism so visitors are very welcome. During the last event a few months back when people took over the airport, I had colleagues flying in to Thailand and they had no problems except for restrictions on where they could go for lack of transport.
My understanding, and it is only that, that TRS is quite advanced in Thailand and is very well accepted. Many Asian people go there for surgery as there is little stigama to being TG. There are many Thai TGs working as prostitutes in Australia. Not sure what that means :( :(.

Good Luck Honey

Actually, you can get a temporary USA passport in the target sex for up to one year before providing the documentation that you "changed-sex."

If you get the change made you must either have the srs or have the old marker renewed on your passport. But no, you don't have to wait until after srs to have the marker changed on your USA passport.

You may want to go to the Passport Office website and read. Andrea James has info on this at www.tsroadmap.com as well.

You've no need to travel as "male" if you don't want to. And the change then to the permanent passport listing you as "female" has no charge once you provide the surgical documentation.

For the shots: none were required before I went over and I did not have any. My friend had a few. Neither one of us had any issues and she ate from the street vendors while I typically ate from the hotel / local stores.

The biggest nuisance were the con artists, they are everywhere in Bangkok and especially thick around the tourist spots.

Traveling abroad one thing I make sure I have up to date is my tetanus.  You can check out a/b also. I have had to get other shots but it was because I travelled in areas outside of tourist zones in Asia. Thailand seems to be having political issues most of the time, when  I have been there and it has not really changed my plans at all. The one thing I did do is several years  ago I was there when they were having a major economic crisis and I exchanged money everyday since I got more each day than the day before.
Cheers
