A green floral dress had been catching Bernie Darling's eye for months.
He was unsure whether it belonged to his mother or sister, but he was
attracted to its skimpiness and had developed an irrepressible desire
to wear it in public.
Getting into the dress was easier than he imagined and he found the
tight fit rather flattering.
But he was nervous. "Nervous as a kitten" because he normally confined
dress-ups to the secrecy of his teenage bedroom.
