I recently received an e-mail from a Durham school teacher concerned
about the safety of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and
questioning (LGBTQ) students in our schools.

I can't name this person or the school because the teacher fears
losing her job; in North Carolina you can still be fired for being
gay. She calls the school "extremely non-accepting" and says she
recently encountered stiff resistance from administrators when an
incident involving violence against gay students occurred.
