40 Trans Heroes? You're Kidding, Right?

One of the reasons I became a trans activist a decade ago was because of my pissivity over a relatively melanin free IFGE list of out and proud transpeople.

To pour gasoline on it, they not only neglected two future IFGE Trinity winners in Dr. Marisa Richmond and Dawn Wilson who were doing thangs at the time, the only two African descended people on it were RuPaul and Dennis Rodman, who have publicly stated they aren't and didn't want to be.

Well, history repeats itself.

I read Monica's blog yesterday. I totally agree that some of the people listed are dubious as far as their contributions to the trans community. RuPaul? Pullease! He's stated that he's not trans. Not many people of color on the list, either. People of color got many of these movements started and like always are pushed to the margins because the mostly gay, middle class white male hierarchy is more interested in assimilation than they are for justice and equality.

I have nothing against marriage equality, but what good is that when transgender can be fire from their jobs just because of who they are?
