The Importance Of Being Earnest

Been there, done that. Bought the T-shirt, but seldom wear it anymore.

Why? Because it might make someone uncomfortable to see, or read, or hear, that the world isn't always what they wish it was. They might have placed before them the fact that no one, at least not anyone reading this, is merely a victim of society. Perhaps when people are labeled they may feel uncomfortable with the labels: white, female, sissy, ignorant, remarkable, authoritarian, privileged, wrong on the merits.

Some of us hate the labels we find laid on us by others. Some doctor in Nashville in a long ago past lifted me from between my mother's thighs and held me up to see the makings of a penis and testicles and labeled me male. It was an easily done action and I'm as certain as certain gets that the doctor himself (yep, very few doctors weren't he back in that day) saw no harm and perhaps even a great deal of good in what he did. Afterall, the body parts were there. Right. Move on.
