Part time or on the job?

I plan to graduate from university in April, after four long years of working and stress and keeping my eye on the prize....I will have my Bachelor of Commerce (business) degree, and I will be hoping to land a good entry level position with a decent company.

However, I also want to move out and start living full time once I graduate too. However, I want to be able to get a decent job and start making some real money. But, since I will be just starting to live like a woman at all, it could be hard. I really don't want to have to get up every morning and put on a suit and tie, and I have already started t blockers and hair removal.

In my situation, would it be wiser to live as a guy during the day for work and going part time, even though I'd rather not?? I think it would be easier to just be a woman at work than having to come out later, even if I don't pass all that well.

Thanks

I gues it depends on what you'll be doing & what the policy is.
CONGRATS on your soon-to-be graduation. Thats very admirable :)

Difficult one that.

My feeling from where I came from is to go as your true gender, in your case female. But practice like crazy so you can carry it off. It is more difficult to transition on the job as many have posted. Yes the employment people and HR can be very supportive and it's against the law to discriminate but so what. I think Hypatia's threads cover that. If you are qualified and good for the job, they know they are employing a female so what? If they know they are employing a person transitioning and have any idea what that means, they won't. Sorry to say I wouldn't. No predjudice at all, just don't want the problem in the work place.

I'm going to start a thread on that.

Love and Hugs
Hope I wasn't too negative

Well that's what I'm doing, and had planned to do  for as long as possible to keep the money rolling in. The problem is that the frustration builds and builds as you get used to presenting female everywhere else but then you go to work and it is hell to have everyone treating you like a guy again. Plus you can't change your name 'cos you risk it outing you at work so every time you present your  ID it has your male name on it, your bank cards too (I don't seem to be allowed to change my cards without ID to back it up), all your official mail still has the wrong name on it etc. It adds up, the double life is not fun at all. Also  I live very close to where I work so I can't present female in my home town for fear of  running into customers (and  I do run into them a lot), that would depend on your job and proximity to it of course.

I found about 6 months into HRT that I was desperate to get out of the job and find something where I could go full time, problem is there's no jobs around so I'm stuck in limbo and paranoid about when I'm going to get sacked.

So yeah, I wouldn't recommend the dual-identity thing but it really depends on your situation I guess - mine's mainly affected by living around the corner from my job and working in high volume customer service. If you're traveling a distance to work that allows you to keep it away from your private life and you can stand all the wrong pronouns and perceptions then it could work.

But Imadique, it sounds like you live in a small area, right? I live in a big city with lots of anonyminity.

It's not that small, thought it was much bigger 'til I realised there was no escape :P

Granted it's no city though and your location is a big advantage.

I couldn't stand the in-between, to be passing yet having Female ID.  Seems as if it would be easier to just start as a woman than to transition later.  I transitioned on the job but even thought all are on board, the pronoun slip-ups grate, as does knowing they still think of me as F even if they're using the right pronouns.
