Grammy Award-winning performer Ne-Yo cried onstage at a concert in Manchester, England, last week after becoming too ill to continue his performance — and, apparently, he has taken a lot of heat for this, as evidenced by a letter he has posted on his Web site for his fans.

It is unfortunate that someone of his talent and fame has been criticized for crying. In fact, it is unfortunate that any man is criticized for crying, regardless of the reason.

What we have done in our culture and in our binary gender system (two-gendered system), which establishes such strict gender roles for men and women that neither gender can possibly meet them, is that we have completely separated men from their emotions or from any ability to express them.
