I AM writing in response to the hearing on An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes, also known as the transgender civil rights bill, that the state's Joint Committee on the Judiciary heard on July 14. I attended the hearing, and I was shocked and saddened at how often opponents to the bill brought up sexual assault in bathrooms. I am offended that they prey upon my experience as a woman to try to engender fear and hatred for transgender people instead of presenting any reasoned and rational opposition to protecting our citizens' civil rights.

Might as well just wait until my generation takes over politics.

Only if the game has rules the players adhere to.
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

The rules are pretty well noted.  Money and power, status and prestige all work to perpetuate themselves, as such, they tend to choose people to come in that are pretty much like the people going out.  Obama may be black, but otherwise he is an Ivy League educated politician, pretty much like everyone else.  Once you are a real 'outsider' its very, very hard to get in.

Yeah, because those fun loving hippies did such a wonderful job fixing things like they thought they would. The ones of your generation who take the lead will be just as greedy and corrupt as the last ones in charge. They also will have found new and improved ways to screw people over by then.

Looking at values of people like 18-24 years old here in Europe makes one really to scare.  However they can still learn something.  ::)

Yeah.  How many more times will skateboards & flares be "new" again :)

The young generation makes the same sorts of mistakes we did (adjusted to the context of current times).  The older generation patronizes them for their values and attitudes but fortunately the youngsters think we're all square and stupid, so they don't pick up on the hypocrisy of it!

Yes, but their generals, just like all generals before them are working overtime to win the last war.  F-22 anyone?

However, most of the people I know in the generations younger than the baby boomers I think are going to be more capable.  Of course, given the two baby boomer presidents Clinton and Bush II, I don't think we set that bar very high.

Have ya ever noticed that to be a "great" American president usually requires that the designated representative requires a good and sucessful war to be so designated?

Oh its been noted.  By many.  The only way American history really differs from Old World history is theirs is kings and war, and kings and war, while ours is, war, then have an election, war, then have an election.

As for this: Opponents of transgender rights bill employ scare tactics
What other tactics do they have to use.  Reason?  Nope?  Financial impact? Negitive.  Common Sense?  Not with that crowd.

When ya have no capacity at all for "reason" I would suppose fright is the best way to go. :)

Well, you do kinda have to dance with them what's brung 'ya and all.  And it wasn't reason that got them there in the first place.

I do not believe my future generation of politics to be more capable: simply more conditioned due to their youthful wanton values in this day and age.  I'm certain they'll be just as close minded and viciously bigoted in future civil rights proceedings.

Perhaps, but they will be closed minded and bigoted about different things.  They don't seem to be as hung up on race deal, or the gay thing as much as their elders are.
