Which is your dominant hand/side?

Left-handed
Right-handed
Ambidextrous
Right-handed with "hook grip"
Not sure

Flan

Wikipedia says a hook grip is a way a weightlifter holds the barbell, if it is intended in a different context, I'm as clueless as everyone else

I am left handed..I couldn't imagine my life if I wasn't because I do most things backward. But heh I think they say that any person who isnt normal is more likely to be left handed

Zelane

Well, I have been asked if im lefty by some people when they see me writing. And then I wiggle my right hand with the pen I was writing in front of their face just to see.

They just say: ah and get a puzzled expression and then they say "you write left with the right!" I think thats the "hook grip"

My dominant hand switches from time to time. And then I found out myself grabbing things with the left. It can get complicated since I dont use it much for that. Someone told me I probably was forced to write right when I was a kid.

I think the name "hook grip" comes from the way my hand looks when writing. All crooked over the paper and with that position I tend to smug a little bit of the letters with the pinky.

I remember my early school years with the wonderful Christian Brothers, any lefties had their arm tied back so they could not use it.

I write with right. I play golf left, I play tennis/squash right. I cook, carve, paint with either. My left leg is stronger than my right. I kick a ball with my right. I'd miss with my left.
I'm just odd.

BTW right brain tends to control left side and left brain the right. Hence a stroke in the left tends to damage movement in the right body. But it's not absolute.  I'll have to check but someone will know, the right optical nerve goes to the left cortex and left to the right. I think MBW as usual

I'm a righty but I write like Zelane describes. I have also received comments of writing like a lefty and I too smudge my work. I also start at the bottom of my letters instead of the top. I'm not sure if that means anything really.

I know in art school they make you draw with the hand you are uncomfortable with to loosen you up and get you to break bad habits.

The nerves from the right half of the brain twist over the left brain nerves and control everything on the opposite side. Yes, sight, sensation, motor control, everything.

And since nobody seems to know what a hook grip is (dunno, I somehow thought you would know what I was talking about.) I have a picture.

I really do wonder why they get all of these correlations. They must be looking for them, which brings up the question of why they would be concerned with how many aunts and uncles a TS has.

Some (many?) correlations are coincidences and are meaningless.  That's one of the problems with the social sciences - designing instruments and including broad enough samples to try to figure out what results are coincidental and which are meaningful.

My dad was left handed, mom right. I do some things left handed, and some things right handed. But if forced to say left or right handed, i'd go with right handed.

Kind of off topic, but moderately interesting in a disturbing kind of way. I decided to dig out my Psychology textbook from college to see it had to say about GID, TG, TS, etc.

There was nothing about transgendered or transexual and one paragraph about GID. It basically described it as a childhood condition whereby the child believes they are the opposite gender and prefer to play with the toys of the other. And in some circumstances, when severe, patients will undergo gender reassignment surgery. It also mentioned that GID is attributed to not being properly reprimanded by mom when we did something that was not acceptable for our birth gender.

I guess my mom didn't discipline enough, I don't remember having any girls toys when growing up. Is that complete BS or what? I could kind of understand if the textbook was from the 50's or 60's, but, no, copyright 2006. One paragraph out of 500 pages, someone needs to get with the 21st century.

That is disturbing.  I've seen a textbook from the '80s that took a more progressive view; hell, if I look long enough, I can probably find one from the early '40s that views it more positively than that.

I am right handed. Same with my brother, mom, and dad.
My mom has two sibilings, my dad three, and I one.

Ah, that's what I thought hook-grip was. I only get like that when I'm *Extreamly* intensely trying to get details into a drawing. Like scales...lace..or something. -Shrugs-

However I'm prodominatly a Righty, with minimal function (but it's intelligable!) of my left.

Only child here. Mother; one of three,m iddle of two sisters. Father; Middle of three, older sister, and younger brother.

But yeah no kidding. Really, sometimes half the time I wonder where they pull half of these theises' from. (Obviously where the sun don't shine) Seems some of the time to me it's just a time consumer for them, much like baking cookies, only a little more confusing (as to why they'd even try.) -Shrugs- Oh well.

I am right handed, but I can write OK with my left hand, since my mom is ambidextrous (she prefers her left). Although, my dad had/has more siblings than my mom.

I'm 100% LEFT. I am more into artistic and languages side than mathematical and logical side.
  •

Silver

Looking at the results now, we have about half lefties. Certainly more than the general population (I think the numbers were around 10-25%.) Maybe we lefties are just crazy :P.

And then there's that about lefties being artists and having different thinking styles. But that's a whole 'nother topic.

The ambi's are higher than normal as well I would think.
Odd results.

According to a study, 86% of people are righties.

I voted ambidextrious. I do some things lefty, some things righty. But most things with either hand
