What things (e.g. cosmetics, clothes, ...) would a female have that a male wouldn't? So for example, if you were male that don't care much for appearance and decided to from the next day/week on live as a woman, what things would you need to get? Obviously, the answer varies from person to person, but what might one need/want?

Hi Keroppi,
Well, every woman differs in her grooming and clothing routine, but generally women accumulate more grooming products than men. The average woman would probably have hair styling products and face creams, conditioners and moisturizers, and more 'pampering' like stuff. One thing I notice is that women almost always have hair conditioner in their showers and men usually don't unless they have problem hair. Women usually have some type of face cream or moisturizer (women's skin is drier than men's generally).

Hair products corresponding to the type of hair - volumizing for thin, flat, or straight hair, moisturizing for thick or curly hair. If her hair is long enough to pull back, she usually has ponytail holders, clips, and barrettes, etc.
Razors and shaving cream for legs and armpits.

Makeup - concealer, foundation, mascara, eyeliner, and lipliner.

Clothes - don't know other than bras and panties.

Accessories - rings, earrings, bracelets, scarves, etc

Most women carry a purse or bag of some type.

Sanitary products  :o

If you are stealth and under 50, better have some in your home if you expect to remain stealth LOL!

It certainly depends on the woman, but generally women take better care of their appearance than men, so they may have creams and cleansers and hair products that men don't bother with.  Men usually shave their faces, while women can often get by for a weeks without shaving anything, so a razor is more important to a man.  Most women I know like some accessories (jewelry, scarves, etc.), while most men don't bother, although I've known plenty of exceptions.

And the reason many women carry purses is because the pockets in women's clothes are so @*%#! small.  (Still, I know plenty of women who think it a great accomplishment to not carry a purse.)

As in all generalizations (including this one?) the variations may outnumber the instances that fit. ::)

Good point, but my second wife had a hystorectomy before I knew her, so she never needed them or birth control. ;)

Oh, but to answer the question posed in the title of this thread: You need support and friends and counseling and to know yourself and an adjustment to living in a new way and a certain toughness and a sense of humor (especially about yourself) and some flexibility and luck and time and ...  ;)

The best way to answer this is to have a GG friend and ask her to teach you her routine.  Then go out with her to various places.  There is SOOOOO much to know.  Yes, some of the externals have been described.  But there is also a completely different way of looking at life you need to learn.

i am SOOOOO high maintenance now a days.  YES to everything Nero mentioned and don't forget the matching shoes, accessories. etc.  Guys pretty much use just shampoo on the hair.  Me Shampoo, Conditioner, Detanglier, depending on the day a volumizer or a straightener, leave in conditioner, hair gloss maybe hair spray to set.  Thats just for the hair.  Then there is the skin products, the nail products,  Clothes. makeup hum... foundation, blush, eye shadow (4 shades for different parts of the eye.  eye liner lipbstick and lip gloss.  that's just for basic everyday use.  Could add brow liner, concealer, and a gloss eyeliner depending on the day.

shoes.  Guys need maybe 3 pair. work, dress and tennis.  women,  needs at least enough to match each set of clothes.  though if you pick smartly, you can get by with oh 12-15 pair.

From my Mother, to my Grandma; The main things they have and I have that mostly girls have trailing around is:

Perfume or body spray

Hair-clips and bobby-pins

Having a comb and brush

Earrings and necklaces (I'm the only one who wears bracelets)

I'm the only one with nail polish

AND...

All of us have the typical make-up products...

You'v said all I was going to say Beni, these days a big size of my budget goes on my beauty maintenance, specially my hair, color, perms, highlights, my BF gets a trim, costs nothing, my hair costs a small fortune, set spray for my hair is expensive, facials, manacures, pedicures.
What is it about us girls and shoes, my BF has 4pairs of shoes, last time I counted my shoes which came to about 23pairs or was it 25 lol
Its high maintenance being a woman, guys like football, cars and rally racing, I love fashion, beauty and clothes, I guess Im just a typicial girl.

For some reason, that was actually one of the first thing I've read about. LOL

Actually, I've found pads in combination with pantyhose is great at hiding the bits down there and creating a flat look. :)

Pockets, what pockets? :D Learned that the first time I got enough courage to go outside. Was just going to be a drive and then a walk around. Ended up being just a drive about when I realized there's nowhere for me to put the car keys never mind anything else. :D

This made me LOL. The other day I was at the mall and noticed a GG who had an interesting solution to the no-pockets issue - one that I had not seen previously. She was wearing this cute black v-neck top (oh and she was very cute herself) and she had her cell phone tucked into her bra, sticking out of her neckline. Tacky? Yes, very. Still I giggled more than a little bit inside and thought it quite interesting. I think if she did look so pretty and nicely dressed, she would have looked quite trashy and less umm... trendy?  ;D

That's actually not as uncommon as you might otherwise think. Although they don't usually have it sticking out visibly. It's mostly small purse (British English purse - i.e. wallet) and coat room ticket. I have seen a phone once, a girl friend at a formal ball. Me and a male friend was both wide eye going ":o where did that come from?" when she reached for and retrieved the phone. ;D

I see women put the cell phone there a lot at work, I don't know if its tacky, its rock and roll shows, so perhaps that's not a working adjective.

I know a woman who used her cleavage to stash a bottle of PatrĂ³n.  As for the shot glass, it was hanging from a string around her neck.   :icon_drunk:

Heck! I stick my weed and dope inside my bra too! LOL! Just kidding. But I do know other GFs who do that!

I usually keep my phone in my back pocket.  It is an iPhone so it is rather slim and doesn't bother me if I sit on it.  Been doing it for nearly a year, and haven't had any issues with misplacing them or breaking them.  I can also get my car keys in my pocket in a pinch, or in a situation when I am without my purse.

Does a wristlet count? I mean I could probably get away with my phone, ID, and a couple credit cards, and my keys.

I was always pretty high maintenance, but I am way more now.  My hair is shampoo (twice weekly) and condition (my hair doesn't really tangle).  Heat protectant, leave in conditioner, and a spray for a little body in the cowlick area.  Then I have to style the hair.  For my face there are cleansers, exfoliants, and moisturizers (night time and day time [different ones and different for face and eyes]).  Makeup involves foundation, curl my lashes, eye liner, eye shadow, mascara, lipstick, set the makeup with a powder, and blush.

I think it is pretty true about guys having only a couple of shoes.  I had like 9 or 10 pairs back then, so I guess I had more.  Now, I am not really sure how many I have (probably somewhere between 20 and 30).

There is a ton of stuff.

my ex didn't like to carry a purse.  She used to carry her DL and credit cards in her cell phone case which she wore on her belt.  She was always a bit odd though.

I've talked to gg friends and have been told that it's fairly common to stuff the bra (usually cash, sometimes credit cards, phones, lighters, etc....   One friend actually smuggled a knife through customs from tijuana one time)

I used to only own 3 pairs of shoes (work boots, tennis shoes, and dress shoes).  At least officially anyway.  It was always t shirts and jeans for daily use.  Now.............Well as has been said there's the whole hair issue (shampoo, leave in conditioner, heat treatment, mousse/hairspray, etc.), moisturizers both for the face as well as the rest of the body, matching outfits along with matching jewelry and shoes, makeup and nail polish.  The list never ends.  Oh, and of course, you can't wear the same outfit in the same month (the whole year if you can afford it  :)   )

Let me put it very honestly.  Its up to you.
I don't wear makeup, nail polish or jewelry, and I know alot of girls who don't.  I don't think these are things one needs, I think these are things if you like you should get.  While I do think makeup is essential for early in transition...its purpose goes down in time, and it becomes one of those optional things as laser/electro does its work.

Hair products, definately do have thier role.

Shoes, I think having a good pair of knee high boots. You need enough brown and black shoes, flats or heels don't matter, if you are over 5'7" I would advise against heels though. Sandals of some sort during summer.  Shoes are important, but you only need enough to get by.

Alot of this stuff has more to do with "self expression" than actual need.  Generally speaking that is what I think most women transitioning miss. If you are looking to come off ultra-femme that might work.  The thing is you need to figure out whats right for you, how do you want to express yourself.  One of the advantages of being female is there is a pretty wide variety of self expression.

I should note, I wear the same outfit in a month all the time.  There is nothing wrong with it.
