What ladies do in the ladies room

I'll often find a "new instant friend" in the restroom.  I'll run into a woman who I've never met and she'll strike a conversation as though we've been life long friends.  I still find this difficult to deal with.  I don't mind pursuing the conversation, but when I go into the stall, I'd rather not. 

I just don't feel comfortable talking while I'm busy taking care of personal needs. Even though I made my change many years ago, I'm still incomfortable with my voice in this, the final frontier.

I suppose that this will be the ultimate conflict to resolve for me.  It's odd that a simple conversation in the restroom gives me so many hang ups.

I can relate with that Cindi.  I've had a cold over the last two weeks and it's played hell with my voice to such an extent that I practically resorted to nods and grunts in the rest room   But I normally do chat when spoken too, after all it's hard to avoid.  There you are washing your hands and fixing your hair or make-up and when someone stands besides you and makes a comment you're compeled to answer.  So for those just starting out be prepared...

I don't like talking while using the bathroom... but then again it's better then in the men's room...with those awful urinals.

We do our business like everyone else   we also fix our hair, retouch our makeup and talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, and talk,
No, seriously, the ambience in the ladies room is totally different from that in the "dude's" room.  There are lots of smiles from everyone (especially at work since everyone knows you); there is this accompliceness that my evil twin never had when he was in guy mode.

Another thing that I consider very polite is the fact that women let you know when there is no more tissue paper or toilet paper in a stall; unlike the other sex group which does not emit a single word while in the restroom

just like........men feel you need to be an adult and be able to put the seat down all by yourself........

males are taught to be logical.
why is it females can't seem to do anything on their own without help..like a 2 year old child?

Hmmmm....interesting logic by the way!  I would have imagined that males don't mention anything about tissue covers because they don't sit as much as we do on toilets... but again, I could be wrong!    or maybe illogical would be the appropriate word. >

I don't really like having people strike up a conversation with me in the ladies room. Call me anti-social, but I don't like it. If I need to pee, I need to pee, why converse about it? or anything else for that matter when I don't even know them?
Of course, if you're never going to see the people again, you could do what I do and pretend to be deaf.

  When "calling it as you see it" is demeaning or disrespectful then, in my opinion, it's completely out of line here. It has zero to do with anything even remotely support oriented and was not necessary.  I have a lot of views that about things in life that I don't share here simply because they are not relevant.

  That is how I see it.

  However..it is not up to me what is acceptable here and what isn't.  In instances where I may consider crossing the line I choose to hold my tongue out of respect for this site.  That is what I did.

I had a cold the past couple weeks as well and it also played with my vocal cords.  I figured, what the heck and just kept talking in my best female voice.  I figured if somebody noticed my voice sounding funny, I would say I had a cold.  Nobody did though.

As for my voice, I rarely get "sirred" even on the phone, but still do from time to time.  I usually ask them to repeat themselves and they do without the "sir".  I may come across to some people on here as conceded or arrogant, but I just have a lot of confidence.  I think my confidence is one of the prime reasons I'm able to live as female so well.  The features of my body (like height, foot size, hand size, shoulders) tend to fall within the overlap of both men and women, so I have had very little problems as either sex.  I tend to ask myself how a woman who falls within that overlap would react if somebody assumed she was male and react in a similar regard.  Because I tend to have a backup plan with a certain reaction, I tend to have confidence.  In fact, I expect to pass as female, just as any other woman would.  As a result of all of this, I tend to use my voice freely in restrooms and have many conversations with other women and I do enjoy these conversations.  Sorry for the tangent.  I had to give some background as to why I feel so free to use my voice.  Also, do realize that just the fact that you are using the women's restroom is a major cue that you are female.

From my POV, there's a great difference between logic, and courtesy.

When you go to meet someone...you can either say "Hi, I'm so happy to see you."  or you can logically assume that they already know that...I mean...you DID come to see them of your own free will.  Personally...I'd rather tell them what I'm feeling rather than sit in awkward silence assuming that the feeling is mutual.

If you use a family car, it's courteous to fill up the tank and not leave it empty.  Sure...a driver can logically figure out that you're out of gas...but it's very inconvenient, and if it leaves you stranded it doesn't help you much.

It's a matter of perspective.  If your view of life is solitary and doing everything yourself, for yourself, and forget everyone else...then another way of doing things may seem illogical to you.

If you want to be courteous and helpful to those around you, and enjoy receiving those courtesies in return, such a solitary self-centered view of life would be considered rather rude.

I'm sure it would be a pet-peeve if someone left your gas tank on "E"...because it's something that you use frequently.  You step in the car, and assume that there will be gas in the tank...because it's rude not to fill it up.
In the bathroom, it's the same measure of courtesy.  Of course...if all you do 95% of the time is shake and go, you may not be thinking about the other people that need to use those same facilities, and how their needs are met, since they differ from your own.

You know, I really think what ladies do in the ladies room depends on the community you're in. If it's a big public restroom, there probably won't be too much talking--maybe a little here and there. In a more intimate restroom that's shared by the same people every day--such as one in a dorm or workplace--there'll probably be more socialization going on. It's the same with guys' restrooms. Usually you don't get any talking in a restroom, but in my dorm, guys say hi when they come into the bathroom, maybe a "Lookin' good" if we're dressing up do go out somewhere. I used to worry about restrooms but I don't anymore--once you start passing, you don't think about being trans that much.
