          Here's a thought that I had.  First off-  who out there bowls in a sanctioned league?  As you know in most leagues there is a vacant score used at times.  One for a male bowler and one for a female bowler.  Also they divide the catagories for stats Male and Female bowlers scores.  So if one is Androgenist do we get our third catagory for stats since we wouldn't qualify for male or female high average or series, or game?   Makes one go "HMMMMMMMMMMM".  Anyone care to throw in a couple pennies for thought?  DyLen

For society, they usually think that there are only Males and Females in the world! There is intersex people and such...But the world doesn't usually think that there is three genders. The only thing I can see close to comfort for people who don't fit under Male or Female is a Unisex bathroom.

I'm physically male, I don't see why I coudn't compete against other males...

I think bowling is the least of our worries. I don't even think there is concenses that a third category by itself would actually cut it considering the range of non-binary types. Toilets, healthcare, insurance, legal recogniton, human rights - perhaps these are bigger issues.

              I bowl as a male and use the male bathroom.  I was just pondering about the situation in most bowling leagues and how that would fit with the intersex people of the world.  There are times when I like to dress and be neither a male nor a female.  Why do we have to be one or the other?    I know some bowling leagues that treat the male and females in the league the same (except for the sanction fees).  But most have separate catagories by sex/gender.

Humans like categories.  They help us to understand the world, although they can become irrelevant.  But I do think they are necessary learning tools to help us understand ourselves and our places in the world and in our lives.

I don't think we have to be one or the other, but the majority seem quite happy with the arrangement and are unaware that there is any other possibility. My experience as someone that openly no longer pretends to be male or female is that if you say speak up then people are fairly accomodating.

If you want change I think you need to become an agent of change.

I don't think they're going to include a third gender in there...
but that doesn't stop you from starting your own Trans/Inter/AG league!
In fact, many LGBT communities have their sport groups, in London there's the Frontrunners (a club for both amateur joggers and marathoners) and in Amsterdam a few years ago you had the Gay Olympics!
So yeah, sport is for every gender.

                 Well, I wasn't blathering about God(that I will leave for someone else to discuss).  I was talking about a third gender in bowling stats.  It was just my thoughts on something that crossed my mind.  And it mostly applies to those that are or have bowled on a league.  About the catagories that they use male/ female, but no third group  for those that ID that way.  Of course most of us are so in the closet.     DyLen

Then I suppose it's pretty much the same deal as using the restrooms: If there is no gender-neutral option available, then you have to choose one or the other from the options that are available.

Seriously, most people don't even know that more than two genders exist, so why would bowling leagues, specifically, make a point of acknowledging us, unless - as someone else noted - it was a league with a lot of LGBT members?

Perfect, I also don't bowl because of my nails. The chocolate sounds great. Consider me a charter member, I will sign up for life!

I'm amazed that property values in some places are so low that they can afford to put up bowling alleys. They were all gone from Santa Rosa and San Francisco years ago, if not decades ago now.  Which I find to be a shame.  Not like I like to bowl, but they did have bars, which is always a plus.
