Yesterday I had the pleasure of being an observer (and a supporter) in divorce court.  I only saw two couples but I really didn't need to see any more to get the message.  Julie leaned over to me and said, "At one time they celebrated their union happily with the support and love of family.  He was in a tux and she was in a bridal gown."

The image in my head was of all the "happiest day in my life" ceremonies I have seen in my life.  And I remembered them as truly being a joyous day.

Then I looked at the couple in front of us, bitter to no end.  And the couple behind us who approached the bench arguing about who is paying what towards the support of their kids.

The happy day bubble burst.

I didn't go through that.  We ended the marriage agreeably and she went to court to finalize the divorce.  So yesterday was my first time in divorce court.  It was an experience I won't soon forget.

Maybe it would be a good idea for anyone planning to get married to spend a day in divorce court and be reminded that if you and your future spouse don't work on it, you may one day find yourselves being watched by others planning to get married.

When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.
