MOBILE, Ala. -- When John Burton showed up in Mobile County Circuit
Court for a June bail revocation hearing, he did so, he said, with the
understanding that it was a formality, that his bail would be upheld
and he would be free to go.

Perhaps that's why he felt comfortable appearing in court dressed as
Maxi Heights, his drag-queen alter ego.

Judge Roderick Stout did revoke his bail, and Burton, 31, was booked
into Metro Jail -- his former place of work as a corrections officer
-- wearing tight white jeans, a black blouse and a silky black wig
with burgundy highlights.
