A Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for the man convicted in the "callous, brutal" 2003 killing of transsexual prostitute Shelby Tracy Tom.

Vancouver police say Jatin Patel breached parole conditions when he failed to return to a half-way house Thursday.

Patel admitted he killed Tom when he discovered she was transgendered.

I don't understand why these justice systems keep letting these criminals back out on to the streets. I hope I'm wrong on this but it wouldn't surprise me if this guy is already out trying to kill/rape/harm other transgendered women. If the person killed someone in a "callous, brutal" manner as it described, why is he out of prison 6 years later? These people need to either be locked away for the rest of their lives or executed. It seems like the only way a criminal is ever prevented from committing hate crimes is when they attack the wrong ->-bleeped-<- and get shot. If the authorities aren't going to get criminals off of our streets, we should get these useless cops/judges/prosecutors off of the payroll, out of the courts, and off the streets, and replace them with people who actually care.

This is absolutely discouraging to me. Am I going to be murdered for being what I was born as? Murder is murder, he shouldn't have been let off so lightly. My stomach feels sick having read this. :/

Of course, he is not white - that would have got him fried in the US.

I'm sorry, but you don't take someone's life and walk out of a prison. That's my opinion. It's so goddamn wrong to do.

Unfortunately, far too much of society apparently believes in coddling criminals. It is downright sick how too many times the justice system is more interested in helping criminals than helping victims. It appears that a lot of people aren't willing to seriously face the issues which is why when someone picks up an article descrbing something as "Woman kidnapped and raped while walking down Main Street" instead of the public asking why the rapist was let out of prison (where he was convicted of rape before) they decide to question why the woman was walking down the street. So I guess if a transgender person is murdered, it must be our fault? While this happened in Canada, similar incidents happen in the U.S. and I believe that crime is starting to get out of control. Any justice system that lets someone out just a few years after murder is a failed system. If our public servants continue to not use our tax dollars and resources appropriately, sooner or later the people will get fed up and the people will start handling crime the way it used to be done in the 19th century.

Violent crime is a lot lower than it was ten years ago, and that's lower than it was in the sixties - you're paranoid.
