The festival's accompanying programs have been pared from 40 to 37, he said. "But that means the quality will be better."

Indovino says the challenge each year is to strike a balance for filmgoers in the various communities — gay men, lesbians and transsexuals.

"We're two or three festivals, at least, in one," he says. "We try to make our programs as diverse as possible for the gay, lesbian and transsexual communities, but also offer some things the heterosexual community will enjoy."
