Uggghh, all this talk about SRS is really making me sad that I still have to wait 13 months until I get it done :( I'd take the pain in a heartbeat if I could have it done now.

Believe me I know how you feel. As I said before, I was a ticking time bomb, wondering if I was going to be able to afford SRS before my cardiomyopathy made me medically ineligible. Finally getting on that plane and flying to Thailand was surreal. I never thought it would ever happen. And now it's done and over. You'll get there too  :)

My morphine pump was my best friend for the first 24 hours post SRS.

Out of the darkness, into the light.
Following my bliss.

I would think that in the end, it really doesn't matter how much it hurts...

Haven't had SRS, but I did have a vasectomy.  And that hurt like hell.  For two weeks afterward.  Granted, I was a dummy and didn't call my doctor for any pain meds.  I could have used them.  Really, it varies for each individual.  Some bodies are more reactive to trauma than others.  I know I swell and bruise terrible after surgery.  Other people, after a couple days, it's like it never happened.  I'm basing my pain and swelling expectations on the reaction to my past surgeries.

That's kind of what I was thinking too. I would hope it doesn't hurt at all *during* the operation, and once it's done who cares how much it hurts as long as it's temporary.
