Defining "woman" is always risky business, and I applaud Peggy Orenstein for taking the plunge. While Orenstein tempered the typical risk through her skillful use of personal narrative, I found her analogy of her own situation to transsexuality rather offensive. She writes that "without breasts or hormone-producing ovaries, what would the difference be, say, between myself and a pre-op female-to-male transsexual?
