Hi again,
Just wondering if MTF HRT will change your voice much??
Even if the effects of HRT are different with everybody, but will it have much effect in general???

Sorry I did not google this, but ive been felling a little bit sick today and don't fell like looking for agers on the net, when sombody could get me a acurate reply here.

Thanks all!

HRT isn't famous for changing voice of MTF.

Strange how with FtMs the voice changes but with MtFs not really--My guess. T is more stronger then E!

Getting the female voice can be easy though,

Hiya

HRT does nothing to change the voice in MtF. It does this in FtM because the voice breaks as it does with natal males at puberty. Unfortunately estrogen cannot fix what was broken, only hard work will do that.

some therapists and people claim it does affect somewhat, but I am not sure if it's actual physical change.

surgery, practice, those are your options..

My voice coach claimed that HRT would not affect my voice.  According to her, the problems are the length of the vocal cords, which do not change, and the resonance most males have because of the larger chest cavity.

Practice, practice, practice.  Like a lot of stuff in transition, a pill or surgery isn't the answer.

HRT will not change your voice. If you have a male sounding voice a speech therapist may help. If that doesn't work there is always voice surgery, but if I were you I would try and work on your voice yourself.

A very loose rule of thumb regarding the human body is: if it grows, nothing will make it "ungrow".   It's a simple answer to a complex question but it works in most cases.

I went to the voice coach in the university drama department.  I explained that I was an MtF TS and needed help "feminizing" my voice.  She gave me lots of pointers, but most of the work has been on my own.

You might have to ask my friends how successful I am. ::)  Everyone treats me as a woman, but many if not most people I see every day know I used to present male.  About a month ago I was chatting with a friend and a college-age girl gave me The Look.  I'm pretty sure it was my voice that cued her.  I've asked some friends about my voice and they say it sounds like a woman's.  If it does, it probably sounds like a woman who's had too much whiskey and too many cigarettes.  But I can tell that I have little of the deep resonance I used to.  I've had better luck on the telephone lately - fewer sirs, a few maams, and some people who ask my name before using an honorific.

One of the things the voice coach said was to flip up the soft palette.  There's like a flap at the back of the roof of your mouth.  If you can raise that, the voice will resonate more in the mouth than in the chest.  At first I would have to consciously open my mouth and shape my jaw and mouth to flip up the palette before starting to speak.  I'm gradually getting to the point where I do it without thinking about it and don't have the 3-second pause to position my mouth before speaking.  It helps that I live alone and talk to myself a lot.

Isn't this fun?  Who knew it was so complicated?  :P
